Lyrics and translation

Wish You Were Here

"… and disciplinary remains mercifully"
"Yes, would you now take this star nonsense?"
"No, no"
"Now which is it …"
"I'm sure of it …"

So, so you think you can tell
Heaven from hell
Blue skies from bread
Can you tell a green field
From a cold steel rail
A smile from a veil
Do you think you can tell

And did they get you to trade
Your heroes for ghosts
Hot ashes for trees
Hot air for a cool breeze
Cold comfort for change
Did you exchange
A walk in the war
For a lead role in a cage?

How I wish,
How I wish you were here
We're just two lost souls in a fish bowl
Year after year
Running over the same old ground
What have we found
The same old fears
Wish you were here

I would like you to be here

"… and the discipline remains unforgiving"
"Yes, but would you accept that whim of a star? "
" No no "
"Well, which one is it …"
" I'm sure … "

So like that, you think you can distinguish
The paradise of hell?
The blue sky of pain?
Do you know the difference between a field of greenery
And cold steel rails?
Between a smile and a veil?
Do you think you can make a difference?

And did they make you swap
Your heroes against ghosts
Embers against trees
Hot air against a cool breeze
All this for a cozy comfort?
And did you trade
A role of appearing during the war
Against a first role in a cage?

As I would like,
How I wish you were here
We're just two fucking souls swimming in a jar
Year after year
Constantly traveling the same old piece of land
And to find what?
These same old demons
I would like you to be here

Wish You Were Here on Welcome to the Machine

A very nice version of 6 min 23 s recorded on July 2, 1977. Gilmour takes some liberties on the line of song and the whole song is bathed in the piano of Wright which gratifies us in premium of a superb finish!
