A group of enthusiasts is trying to find the sound of David Gilmour and the voice of Roger Waters. A difficult summit to reach, but a convincing result.
Annecy, October 2016. Plus a free place in the Arcadium, which explores, that evening, the far side of the Moon. Little by little the Savoyard public leaves the stands to mass near the stage and dance. Come to listen religiously to the repertoire of Pink floyd executed by a cover band, spectators meet in a real rock concert. It is the Best of Floyd effect, six musicians, three singers and a few shadowy men who form a real group.
Passionate people determined to bring Floyd's music to life and share the emotion, the thrill of his greatest titles. With one ambition: to remain faithful to the pioneers of progressive rock without being servile. "I admire what revivalist tribute bands do, ensures Bertrand Lefebvre, the leader, singer and guitarist of the group. What Gary Mullen does in One Night of Queen is remarkable. On stage, it looks like the reincarnation of Freddie Mercury! Ditto for The Musical Box with Genesis. Our approach is different: we do not do archeology, any more than we pretend to be a duplicate of the Floyd, mission moreover impossible … It is only important for us to capture the soul of the piece, to find its feeling original. And also to have a light show up to par and above all a quality sound; I can not stand the porridge or overly aggressive mixes. "
“Finding the sound of Gilmour is like walking in the mountains”
By founding Best of Floyd in 2004, after years of piano bar, Bertrand Lefebvre never imagined that his group would appear today in the top three of the world's best specialists in Pink Floyd. If they do not have the means – enormous – of Australian Pink Floyd, who goes on world tours, "Little Frenchies" are on an equal footing with their Anglo-Saxon counterparts. And Lefebvre's contagious passion for David Gilmour, guitarist and singer of Pink Floyd, is not for nothing! At 52, the Savoyard admits that he still hasn't seen it all. "All the tutorials on the Internet for allegedly playing like him make me laugh. Rediscovering Gilmour's sound is like walking in the mountains: you think you've arrived, then you realize that the summit is still far away … His playing is very precise, with no frills or unnecessary notes; technically, it is not complicated and yet it is incredibly difficult to reproduce! Even having listened to the solos ofAnother Brick in the Wall (part 2) or from Run Like Hell, I still discover things there. The material has nothing to do with it; it's all a question of details, sensitivity, and above all, what a left hand! Gilmour's style has something paranormal, something mysterious, and it's perfect as well. "
On stage the result is more than convincing. For more than two and a half hours, the group continues the pieces of bravery (Comfortably Numb, The Great Gig in the Sky, Shine on You Crazy Diamond …) by putting in this new tour a particular emphasis on The wall. Not to miss !
